Have family, must travel. The fam-friendly 2020 Toyota Highlander arrives with more room and best-in-class fuel efficiency.

Toyota’s popular mid-size crossover SUV has been redesigned from the rubber up for 2020, built on the brand’s renowned TNGA platform for the first time ever. This gives the all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander advantages in the looks, tech and performance departments, but what it really means is that it’s now more useful than ever, especially for families.

The TNGA’s platform lends the Highlander a strategic stance that allows it to have a tighter turning radius, a powerful profile and efficient aerodynamic design. That latter feature, in concert with the Hybrid AWD model’s efficient powertrain, delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency at 6.7L/100 km combined.

“The Toyota Highlander’s history is one of success – leading the segment that it created in 2001 – and that provided us with a unique challenge: to create something better, when the bar was already set so high,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “We’re excited to bring an all-new 2020 Highlander with a new level of style and capability.”

Inside the all-new 2020 Toyota Highlander, available now at Northwest Toyota, there’s more legroom for passengers in both the eight-person, three-person-rear-bench layout as well as the seven-person model upgraded with a pair of captain’s chairs. Toyota also refinished the doors and seats, adding softer padding, a largest-in-segment media display, and an overall aesthetic reminiscent of luxury sedans.

When room needs to be made for grocery bags, hockey bags, pets or other family essentials, the second and third rows stow easily to free up 454 L of space. Yup, it’ll fit… whatever “it” is.

Connected Services by Toyota comes standard on all Highlander models, as does Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Select models will also receive Safety Connect, Service Connect, Remote Connect and Destination Assist. Safety Sense 2.0, available on all models, provides a host of safety features including, backup camera, tire pressure monitoring, Toyota Star Safety System and Blind Spot Monitor System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The 2020 Highlander is available in Blizzard Pearl, Midnight Black Metallic and Celestial Silver Metallic, all which were available on the 2019 model. But it also gets five new flavours: Blueprint, Opulent Amber, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Moon Dust, an ethereal blue.

As for trims, there are five gas models – L, LE AWD, XLE AWD, Limited AWD and Platinum AWD – and four hybrid models – Hybrid LE AWD, Hybrid XLE AWD, Hybrid Limited AWD and Hybrid Platinum AWD.
